Board & Train

board & train

Please understand that a board and train is not a guaranteed “fix it”. It takes work and is certainly a team effort between all involved (yes, you too) even before your dog returns home and especially well after.

For all boarding and board and train stays, we do require that dogs are up to date on vaccines: Rabies, Distemper, Parvovirus and Bordetella.

We also require all dogs be current on their flea and tick preventative.

Last but not least, we require a fecal test run by your vet to check for giardia and intestinal parasites no more than two weeks prior to your scheduled drop off date.

We must have proof of current vaccines and the negative fecal test in order for dogs to come in for their stay.

During your dogs stay, they will get plenty of exercise, either long line romps through the woods, at the park or on our dog pacer treadmill. Your dog will also enjoy play time and chill time in our fully equipped training room.
Your best buddy will sleep inside our home in his/her very own specially assigned crate. Each dog will also have their very own food bowl for the duration of their stay.

All dog crates and bowls are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after each dog goes home, before the next one arrives.
We have three fully enclosed outdoor dog runs and a large fully fenced play yard for dogs to hang out in during their unsupervised outside potty time. Dog runs, water buckets and the play yard are all thoroughly cleaned and disinfected multiple times a day.

Our programs are listed below. Check them out and contact us with any questions you may have.

Problem Child Program

This is our behavior modification program for dogs battling with:
Severe fear, anxiety and/or stress
Reactivity towards people or dogs outside the home
Aggression
Length of stay 4-8 weeks
Cost is $4,400-$8,800

Reactivity, fear, anxiety, resource guarding and dog and human aggression are the main behavior challenges we take on as behavior modification cases. Each case requires a specific approach depending on the issue at hand but with each dog we start by building the dogs trust in us. I do this by spending a lot of time with your dog attached to my hip. Once we have a good start here, we move onto teaching basic obedience skills (leave it, sit, down, place, stay, loose leash walking, boundary training, recall and basic manners that will address mouthing, jumping and counter surfing) as well as addressing the specific problems you are having with your dog that brought you to us to begin with.

I am very careful about the behavior modification cases that I will agree to take. These cases take a lot more work, time and dedication by not only me, but you as well. Behavior mods require an owner to be very, very involved and willing to put in a lot of work even after the dog goes home. If you don’t, it doesn’t matter how much progress your dog makes while here with me, it will fall apart once the dog goes home.
Behavior mods especially, are a lifestyle change. It’s rarely just as simple as training the dog for a few weeks and the problem goes away. The dog has to work hard. They have to change. You have to work hard. You have to change.
If you can’t or won’t, then this isn’t going to work out no matter who the trainer is. It’s a big investment, not only financially but time and effort as well.
